Bricks!

Kate's parents went past the block yesterday and tell us that bricks have been started. Very good news. Apparently the garage was half done. The weather's been shocking this week. I'd doubt anything was done today, and the way the forecast is looking i'd say tomorrow wont be on, but at least progress has been made. I'll post some pictures if we manage to get over on the weekend.

Still nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry. I ran out of room in the title for all of the exclamation marks I wanted use, so here are the rest of them:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's been over 4 weeks since the completion of the frame, and since then, we have been waiting on bricks. We were not expecting too much when we drove to the block today. After all it rained Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but were hoping that at least some of the bricks may have been started. Nothing. Not a thing. To add insult to injury, the Clarendon house on the corner that started a week after us, and had no bricks last week, now has around 20% of their bricks laid. The house 2 blocks down managed to get the roof tiled this week. With the weather outlook looking pretty bleak for the next week, I think that progress will be stalled for a while yet. I don't mind the wait so much. It's the fact that the frame is sitting out there, exposed to the elements. The floor upstairs, which is made of a sort of compressed chipboard type stuff is saturated. I'm sure it can't be good for it.
Not happy.

splash back tiles

I didn't think that we got a picture of the splashback in the kitchen, but i was going through our camera and found one. Here it is. It's actually a bathroom tile, but we thought it would look good as a splashback, and it should go well with the kitchen colours.

Still nothing!!!!

Well, today marked the 3rd disappointing trip out to our block in as many weeks. Still no visible progress has been made. A little frustrating. No wonder there are other builders out there with significantly shorter build times. The build process seems to be less than streamlined. Only 2 things seem to have changed. The sandwich that the carpenter left there has got progressively mouldier, and a pile of sand has appeared. Hopefully the arrival of the sand signifies the commencement of brick laying. I thought the missing window at least may have been put in. Alas not.

Nothing

Another disappointing trip out to the block today. Perhaps we are impatient, and want to see constant progress, but the schedule seems to have slipped, at least 2 weeks now, with no apparent progress. I guess the schedule is Eden Brae's and as long as they deliver on the contracted date, the rest is up to them. The site supervisor said that the delay was due to Boral being out of the bricks, and them having to wait for an available team of bricklayers. I guess they can't control an external supplier's product availability, but surely, considering we signed with Eden Brae so many months ago, they have had plenty of time to sourced brickies. Hopefully next week's progress will be better. The weather outlook's not so good though.

Bricks

Finally, they are here. Apparently Boral have been running behind with the supply of some of their bricks. Hopefully by the weekend they may have started laying them

Update

We excitedly drove out to the block this morning, imagining lots of visible progress after a week of reasonable weather. I was expecting, if not commenced brickwork, then at least the arrival of the bricks. I also thought that the missing front window might be in, and some door jambs installed.

Well, disappointment. There was virtually no visible progress this week. No bricks, no windows. The only work that appears to have been done is a little bracing work on the frames. I guess we can't expect major progress every week, but there really seemed to be no progress at all.

Let's hope next weeks installment is a little more exciting.
